Style in 30A, FL
NO SHIRT?
NO SHOES?
Maybe a few problems…
Every year, college students from around the country find themselves at Florida’s famous 30A beaches. Greek life flocks to Rosemary’s hottest boutiques and Seaside’s iconic flagship location while the schoolwork stays behind.
With a plethora of “destination wardrobes” and “pack with me” videos on social media, one can imagine what intensive planning goes into a spring breaker’s duffel. Or two, or three, or four…
How do you classify style when the dress code is practically nothing? Is it accessories, glam or the bikini? This spring break, these eager travelers came to show off. Beaches of Destin and 30A were riddled with rallying kids, forgetting they’re students. When you come cross country to do nothing but have fun, you must dress for the occasion. Luckily, for the fashion enthusiast, it does not look the same for anybody. A mixture of states, schools, climates and trends all found on the same sand; once a year, every year.
GREEK LIFE
Like troops claiming territory, fraternities and sororities arrived on the beach at the earliest hours of the morning, with flags representing their claimed spots for the day. Matching bikinis and color schemes make it easy to spot what groups decided a little black bikini was Monday’s attire. Sorority sisters share wardrobes like, well… sisters! This co-ed rite of passage makes for a well prepared group of gals to take on the sunny days.
NIGHT LIFE
No shirt? No problem! Captured on your friends disposable cameras and covered in sand, bikinis dictate anyone’s outfits when beachside. Each season, new trends, patterns and fabrics define the swimsuit of the Spring and Summer. In past seasons, we have seen crochet, metallic and nylon bikinis. But there is something about the timelessness of a triangle bikini that will always work. Paired with a distressed pair of denim shorts, layered necklaces and an abundance of jewelry, the beach babe is born. But throwing anything over a micro piece of fabric will always be fashionable. Breathable cover ups and platform sandals are a great way to elevate your day at sea, and adding on glow lotion with a fresh mani pedi will add the last touch to get the coveted “Baywatch” look.
BIKINIS
Off the bounds of campus, girls and guys indulge in a much needed break. It’s no secret that Florida streets are riddled with party animals and unfamiliar visitors. There is not a strip in 30A that doesn't offer a hot spot for bad decisions and no supervision. When out during this special week of the year, you might see an eclectic mixture of Florida styles: the dark glamor of Miami, the playfulness of PCB and a little taste of Parisian and Eastern European inspiration in the notorious Rosemary Beach. All in adjustment to the southern sun, college kids dress for the Florida forecast all hours of the week. You’ll probably see mesh sets, mini skirts and sunnies at all times.
